how to plant & care for a fig tree

have been given a fig plant as a gift would like to know if it will grow in a big planter and how to care for it

Answer: Dear Mona,

You can grow a fig tree in a pot, but it would need to be a fairly large pot – I would say at least 60cm in diameter.

You will need to plant the fig into a good quality potting mix and make sure there is adequate drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. Put it up on pot feet as well.

Each spring and autumm apply a fertiliser suitable for fruiting trees. One that we would recommend is Dynamic Lifter Advanced for Fruit & Citrus.
