The soil seems sponges and pulling away from edge of pot. Do I need to re-pot? Plant is happy, still growing.

Answer: Hi Sarah,

Thank you for contacting Yates,

It sounds like your potting mix may be drying out too much. As potting mix dries it can shrink, this can cause a gap between the potting mix and the side of the pot. We recommend topping up your pot with a good quality potting (look for the Australian standard red tick) suited to your type of plant.

We recommend applying ‘Yates Dynamic Lifter Liquid Concentrate’ to help the existing potting mix to better absorb more water and also as a gentle fertiliser.

Tips for watering pots: Ensure that you are using enough volume of water each watering session and use as much water as the size of pot (for pots less than 20L) e.g. If you have a 5L pot, use about 5L of water. However, the frequency (i.e. how many days per day and/or week) depends on the aspect, weather and type of plant. A soil wetter such as ‘Yates Waterwise Granular Soil Wetter’ can also be added to the mix to further assist with water retention.

Joyful gardening!

Kind regards,

Elise
