What precaution do I have to take to control eggplant borer. My egg plant is infected with don’t know but tender leaves are dying and holes on the stem and fruit.

Answer: Dear Jo,

There are several pests that attack eggplant, heliothis grubs being one of them. The small caterpillars feed on the soft foliage but will also attack the blossoms and fruit. When the caterpillars are tiny you don’t tend to notice them but as they grow the entry holes in the fruit become larger and more noticeable.

To control this caterpillar, the product to use is called Success Naturalyte Insect Control. Success is a natural insecticide which works by both contact and ingestion. Make sure that all foliage is sprayed including the undersides of the leaves. Spray every 7 – 14 days until the pest population is under control.
