The lawn is compacted, has most types of weeds in it and I don’t know where to start?

Answer: Hi Jodie,

Thank you for contacting Yates.

When there are way more weeds than lawn (this includes the grassy weeds) sometimes it is best to kill the whole lot and start again.

It is a bit of a job but will be rewarding once completed. Firstly kill all the weeds with Yates Zero 490 Super Concentrate. After two weeks dig up the soil, turning it over and adding some fine compost into the mix. Then allow the soil to settle. This will bring up more weeds. Don’t be upset by this as moving the soil around is one of the ways to clear the bed of some weed seeds.

Once the weeds have appeared, kill them with the zero. You can then do another dig and spray if you like to further move the soil around.

Then in early spring, once the weather has warmed, you can look at either laying new turf or sowing lawn seeds. You will still get some weeds coming up after you sow your new seeds or lay your lawn, but this is normal and easy to control through hand weeding or spot spraying.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

Kind regards
