I want to plant a small tree up to 6 metres high, with a reasonably open crown affording dappled shade.Ideas

The tree will be within 5 - 6 metres of the house and give dappled shade to the plants beneath it. Deciduous would be ok, but perennial is not a problem. We have problems with possums so it would be necessary to plant a tree that they will not eat.

Answer: Thank you for contacting Yates.

Please refer to the following link in regard to a medium size tree which includes both evergreen and deciduous. https://www.flemings.com.au/products/top-10-trees/medium-size-trees/

However, I am afraid possums have quite a good appetite for juicy new growth from all plants, best to provide protection before establishment. Alternatively, look into other possum repellent options from your local hardware stores.

Hope this helps and happy gardening.

Louise
