Hi there, we have a young lemon recently planted that is generating lots of new healthy growth but the more mature leaves are curling, tearing, going yellow and looking in general quite sick at the same time. What should we do?

Answer: Hi Paul,

Thank you for contacting Yates.

The curling with the leaves that we can see here indicates that the plant is under water stress. It can be either too much or not enough that is causing the curl.

If you can, monitor the water so that the soil is kept lightly moist to moist. In the case that the soil is not retaining the moisture (which can occur with our dry weather), we recommend using a soil wetting agent such as Yates Waterwise to assist with water retention.

The leaves also indicate that the tree is slightly hungry. Giving it a good regular feed in the growing period can assist with not only fruit production but strong leaf growth and form. We recommend using Yates Thrive Naturals Citrus Plant Food. This product contains all the goodness of Thrive with additional seaweed and fish emulsions to assist with any root stress.

Kind regards
