Are Advocado's and Figs germinated from seed going to be viable as fruiting trees?

Have had various advice - both positive and negative.

Answer: Hi Greg, growing ungrafted seedlings make give good results but genetic variation can be a bit of a gamble. It is also a lot slower to find out if the fruit is going to be any good – about 5-7 years for the avocado minimum – worth a try if you have time, space and water but a cultivated variety from your nursery will guarantee a good result.
