Best fertilizer for cycad. New fronds are turning yellow brown.

Answer: Hi Ian,

Thank you for contacting Yates.

Cycads are slow growing so enjoy just a simple dose of Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver and Plant Fertiliser in Spring and Autumn. If you are not fond of the pelleted form of this product you can look at feeding with Dynamic Lifter Liquid.

If the new fronds are the only ones that are turning brown it may also be the work of the Blue Cycad Butterfly. This pest lays their eggs on the leaves of the plant and they can start to hatch within a couple of days. The caterpillars eat through the leaves causing some dieback and browning. If you do have the butterflies around you can assist with the control of the damage that the caterpillars can cause by using Yates Success Ultra.

As always, if you are unsure or have any other questions, we are here to help! Please don’t hesitate to contact us!

Kind regards
