my yellow roses have something on both the stems and the rose itself. It looks like a white dot which is small

At first I thought it might have been white ant but am not sure. They only appear on the yellow ones for some reason and are on the stems and the rose. If I rub it, it appears to come off. What should I use?

Answer: Dear Nicole,

It does sound like you have rose scale on the stems of your roses. This scale is mainly found on the stems and branches. You don’t normally find them on the rose itself.

You can eliminate this scale by pruning off the branches that are badly affected and spraying the rest of the bush with PestOil. This product will suffocate, dry out and kill the scale. You may need to repeat the application as there may be several generations of this pest present each year.

Fertilise your roses now so that they remain healthy. Dynamic Lifter for Roses would be ideal. You can also apply a product called Uplift Organic Plant Starter. This product will give yours roses the lift they need, particularly as they would be under stress from the scale infestation.
