Medium_3154ec6d-6f0f-4f14-a976-b3d08303fc9d I pruned Lilly Pilly hedge 3 days ago. The cut edges are oozing clear sap and edges have turned white.

The sap is running down outside on the bark and I’m worried the cut branches are dying back.

Answer: Hi Linda,

Thank you for contacting Yates.

It’s normal to see some white sap oozing after pruning, it will not harm the health of the tree. An easy way to check if plants are still alive is to scratch the stem. For a living tree, this should be lime green, in a dead tree it is dry and brown.

To help new growth, you can add some Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertiliser after pruning. It’s certified for use in organic gardens and will help create a nutrient-rich soil for better root growth, stronger plants and more flowers and fruit! It can be used on gardens all year round, including native plants.

Hope this helps and happy gardening.

Best Regards,
Louise
